A Century of Excellence

Assorted power rests around the turntable at Norfolk Southern's Juniata Locomotive Shop. Built as the Erecting Machine Shops of the PRR's Altoona Works (Juniata Shops), this facility has been turning out new locomotives and rebuilds for over a century, ranging from the famed K4s Pacifics to 'The Big Engine' S1 6-4-4-6, to 24 new SD70s and the SD70ACu rebuild program for NS. The facility is on its fourth owner and remains one of, if not the, largest locomotive heavy repair and (re)manufacturing facilities in the world.
