With the ongoing PTC project, NJ Transit is suffering from a major shortage of available cab cars. Lately, NJ Transit has been placeing a Geep on the east end of train sets with no cab car, resulting in some rare opportunities to catch double ended trains running throughout the NJ Transit system. Seen here is train 1149 passing the Erie Railroad built BJ Tower at Rutherford, NJ. BJ is one of the few original Erie Railroad built interlocking towers along the former Erie Main Line. The locomotive chosen for this train is GP40PH-2 4109. Built originally for the Central Railroad of New Jersey as GP40P 3677 back in October of 1968, NJTR 4109 along with all of its sisters (except for two) have been demoted to non-revenue service and are mostly used for utility work only.
