Conrail inherited about forty mechanical reefers from the Erie-Lackawanna, numbered in the EL 5000 series. Some, but not all, were repainted in what has to be the most striking and unusual freight car paint scheme on Conrail’s roster. Here a fresh repaint, former EL 5027, stands at Harrington, Delaware.
From a hint of "Bee" (NKP 765), colorful "Bees" (KCS), "Bees" w/ "attitude", to "Bees" that "sting" your eyes, in their own way they have "Bee" on display! Equipment that "Buzzes" with Yellow & Black colors! ("Bees" can still "Bee" entering this "hive"!)
