Burlington Northern EMD F45 No. 6613 sits on the wye at the locomotive facility at Chicago & North Western’s yard in Butler, Wisconsin, in January 1984. This cowl was Great Northern No. 440, the railroad’s last F45, that later went to Morrison Knudsen/Utah Railway.
Freight Cowls are standard locomotives that have a hood that extends the full width of the locomotive. Sadly, most Freight Cowls have been retired, but a few still run on short lines.
