Things seemed so quaint, so comparatively recently. While many mainlines maintained their distinctive signal systems of predecessor roads, now the scene has largely been transmuted to a generic blob of LED lights. Such was not the case along Montana Rail Link's former Northern Pacific route following the Clark Fork River as BN 5586 comes hustling westbound on a late summer afternoon in '99.
