B&O GM50 Newcastle, PA. July 10,1978. Perhaps the most distinctive unit on the Chessie roster was GM50. Delivered as part of the initial order of GP40-2's, it was painted to commemorate GM's 50th anniversary of their entry into the locomotive business. Over the years the unit received a new coat of gold paint on a number of occasions and frequently seen on excursions. In August 1984 it was repainted into standard colors and numbered 4164. Photo taken from my slide collection, no photographer listed on slide.
