The late afternoon sun catches Amtrak F40 212 on a Springfield-New Haven shuttle run passing a searchlight signal just south of the station at Berlin, CT. The second main track here was removed a while after this photo was taken, only to be replaced roughly 25 years later to accommodate a pending increase in service.
With double tracking, CT Rail, a new regional service, and restoration of Springfield Union Station, the Connecticut Valley line has become once more an exciting place for train watching.
