Just over 100 years ago, Mount Lassen came alive during a series of eruptions. These eruptions spewed ash as far as 280 miles from the peak, devastating much of the surrounding forests. Today, Mount Lassen is a sleeping giant, dominating the Northern California skyline. Having just endured a cold winter storm, the mountain displays a heavy layer of fresh snow. Meanwhile, over 40 miles west of the peak and 10,000' lower, Union Pacific 6633 drags a heavy southbound manifest over Hooker Hill.
