Remarks & Notes

Class 6E1 locomotives, E1625 & E1490 (still in their original South African Railways "red & whisker" livery) leaving Bayhead with a load of empties. Bayhead is the largest goods receiving and dispatching yard in Durban. Subsequent to this photo being taken both locomotives have been through the Class 18E upgrade program at Koedoespoort. E1490 is now Class 18E (Series 2), 18-424, and is now part of the PRASA fleet, while E1625 is now Class 18E (Series 2), 18-716 with Transnet Freight Rail.
