| BNSF 8970 on the rear of a loaded ore train at Allouez yard. The wye here hasn't been used in years. In the steam era it was used to turn locomotives, including GN's massive 2-8-8-0 N-2 class that were assigned to ore service. The tail track was cut back a bit when the new loop track the train is on was built in the 1970s. The car ahead of the engine is an older ore car that remains filled and acts as a warning to mine operators that the end of the train is there and not to load the DPU. |
