      Remarks & Notes
Shortly after Penn Central's takeover of the New Haven, several NH RDCs received this quickie patch paint job in which the NH heralds on the ends of the cars were obliterated with a swath of PC green. All were later repainted with the standard PC scare stripes. This Budd was accelerating after making the station stop at Naugatuck, CT, on a Waterbury-Bridgeport branchline run. The Uniroyal footware plant in the background, now long gone, was a major rail freight customer at the time.

The three biggest passenger carriers - Pennsylvania, New York Central, and New Haven - merged to create the ill-fated Penn Central, whose passenger losses and poor service led to the formation of Amtrak and state-owned commuter lines.
