    Remarks & Notes
Shortly before being finally withdrawn from service altogether in KwaZulu Natal, Class 6E1 locomotives, headed by E1598, leaving Bayhead Yard in Durban with a load of empties (used in this case for hauling granite from the North Coast to Durban) for Empangeni on the KwaZulu Natal North Coast. The Class 6E1 locomotives were already no longer working freight trains on the Natal Main Line, having been relegated to loads for the North & South Coast lines. They were then finally replaced on both the coastal lines as well by Class 37 diesels and are really missed by local KZN railfans.
