Rocky lives! Rusty and surrounded by faded Big Sky Blue, the famous mascot of Great Northern still survives on GN 50-foot boxcar No. 319499 sitting at the former GN yard in Sandpoint, Idaho, on October 12, 2017. Interestingly, the COTS panel states the car was built in April 1970, a month after the creation of Burlington Northern. Most likely, the car was already built and being painted for GN before the builder received notice of the new railroad’s paint scheme and lettering.
