Pavilion Mountain Grade . The former BC Rail climbs from Lillooet to Kelly Lake on one the longest grades in North America. The grade thru these S-curves is 1.57%, after adding resistance for curvature, the equivalent grade is closer to 2%. This spot is the transition from the gentler grade from here to Lillooet, and the torturous 2.2% grade from here to Kelly Lake. A early curve realignment can be seen here with old trestle pilings and roadbed wrapping around the outside of the deep cut. The train is empties, and all the xtra power will be used on loaded trains heading back south....
