While waiting for a westbound at the tunnel, I heard on the scanner that 16N was approaching Gallitzin heading East on track 1. I scurried over to the other side of town just in time to snap some pictures as the mixed-freight crept over the summit. The old is being replaced with the new as demonstrated in this picture. Behind 7261, the top of a new signal mast can be seen, which will soon be replacing the dwarf signals that currently protect the interlocking. The Pennsy signal bridge in the background will likely soon be replaced as well, though it appears as if those old signals have a little longer to live, as no new signals have yet arrived to replace them.
The EMD SD (special duty) series are a strong and reliable kind of locomotive which still serve America's rails today. They have proved themselves reliable by clocking in several million miles of freight service over several decades.
