Remarks & Notes

Milwaukee Road received some of the earliest EMD SD40-2s after foregoing SD40s in favor of a handful of SD45s. Originally delivered in the 3000 series they were the last engine model delivered without the Milwaukee Road billboard lettering on the nose and hood. Also note no chain or drop step for access to other units in a consist when moving. these became the backbone of the transcontinental line in the final decade of service.
