With a relatively mild December and early January, ice is just starting to form on the Mohawk River as NS 11R crosses the river on the former D&H. After making only one appearance in 6 years on the D&H, the LV heritage is now leading 11R for the 3rd time in the last 2 months. LV units were a common sight here running SB on D&H NE-87 back in the pre Conrail D&H era. The 52 car NS 11R is running from East Deerfield, MA (Pan Am) to Binghamton. The NS crew took over at Mohawk Yard just north/east of the bridge after a Pan Am crew brought 11R over from East Deerfield. Just a little over a mile ahead the ownership of these tracks changes from CP to NS at CP-485.
