Westbound at King Road. Pere Marquette Locomotive #1225 charges through the unguarded crossing at King Road, perhaps 4 or 5 miles northwest of the farming community of Owosso, Michigan, with a commuter train, bound for Ithaca and points west.
Of course, this is a photo excursion operated by the Steam Railroading Institute in Owosso, on trackage owned by the Great Lakes Central Railroad. From a photographic perspective, one really nice aspect of this railroad is that it travels through rural farm country that hasn't really changed a whole lot since the steam era. The roads are still largely unimproved and it's not terribly difficult to find photo spots that don't immediately convey the date of the image. In the case of this particular spot, we did temporarily alter a couple of things. I wonder how many of them you can spot?
Images from two Lerro Productions events, 10 years apart: 2009 and 2019. The 2009 featured a 31-car freight and NKP 765. The 2019 trip showcased just the 1225 with the Steam Railroading Institute's passenger consist.
