Surfliner Veterans No More. It's a warm, spring afternoon in Los Angeles as AMTK 460 and companion AMTK 456 bask in the afternoon light at Amtrak's Redondo Junction locomotive maintenance facility. It's hard to believe scenes like this are 'historic' in a sense now with just one F59PHi still operating on Pacific Surfliner trains in early 2019. With the coming of the new Siemens SC-44 Chargers, almost the entire fleet of Surfliner F59's now call Metra's operations out of Chicago home.
Some of the best passenger locomotives that EMD ever made (aside from the F40PH). With all Amtrak F59s gone from the Surfline, the only place that they can be seen is with Caltrans (Amtrak California).
