The D&H's four PA-1's had been in service for six months powering the passenger trains between Albany, NY and Montreal. Occasionally a road weary RS-2 would be pressed into service. The 4022, which was built in 1949, pulls into CPR's Montreal West station with "The Laurentian" while a CPR FP-7A heads a commuter train towards Windsor Station.
The Adirondack follows both the Hudson and the Lake Champlain shoreline on its leisurely trip between New York and Montreal. When it started, it was pulled by beautiful ALCO PAs purchased by Delaware & Hudson second-hand from the Santa Fe.
