The eighth of the famous Gresley LNER Pacifics to be built, No 1477N stands on the recently installed 70ft turntable at Kings Cross station in London. The loco was completed at the Company's Plant in Doncaster in June 1923. It was renumbered 4477 in June 1925 and was later named Gay Crusader after the race horse that won three of the classic English horse races, the Derby, 2,000 Guineas and The St. Leger run at its birthplace, in 1917.
