In October 1995, Southern Pacific 4449 spent a week on Portland & Western doing public relations work. On the last day that the steamer operated, the late David Goodheart set up this photo op in Tualatin. Running west on the former SP Newberg Branch, the 4449 and some freight cars passed over a short passenger train on the former BN Oregon Electric. PNWR SD9 1851, the first locomotive painted for the new shortline, pulled the passenger train on the OE. Both trains were moving about 10 MPH with plenty of whistle. There were about 20 photographers jammed into a tight space to record the scene.
