History in the Making :
For the first time in known history, a high and wide transformer load graced the rails of the former Central of Georgia's Statesboro branch. The line has only recently seen the necessary upgrades to handle such loads. Even so, it was slow going for the crew as they were really putting the new track upgrades under a trial by fire. The original leader, GP7 701, was assigned to the train, and handled the train from the NS interchange in Dover, GA until Statesboro. At Statesboro, the engine had issues that prevented it from continuing any further. The crew fetched the other two units from the end of the line at Metter and ran them up the line to Statesboro, where they rescued the stricken train. Thus, three first generation EMD products handled the load to the final destination at Jimps siding, south of Statesboro.
Here we see the train crossing over the intersection of US 319 and several other major roads in Downtown Statesboro. 5 roads come together in the intersection and the tracks bisect them. To complicate matters further, there is a diamond, as the former Georgia and Florida Railway Statesboro branch crosses the Central of Georgia at grade here. The G&F is intact to service a fertilizer distributor.
From a hint of "Bee" (NKP 765), colorful "Bees" (KCS), "Bees" w/ "attitude", to "Bees" that "sting" your eyes, in their own way they have "Bee" on display! Equipment that "Buzzes" with Yellow & Black colors! ("Bees" can still "Bee" entering this "hive"!)
