BNSF 4303 East is about to pass beneath old Route 66 at Crookton. It was about a mile east of here where the old mainline departed its current alignment to follow a steep grade into the valley near Ash Fork and then up once more to Williams. But for the single track between Ash Fork and Williams Jct. handling the Phoenix traffic, the former route is merely graded ballast although still evident on satellite maps. The 4303 with its 126 cars has only to keep throttled up on the high speed, lower grade new line opened in late 1960. Ektachrome.
