The wide open areas of Colorado a few miles east of Model and along U.S. Hwy 350 sees the southbound Southwest Chief making up a few minutes as it was 45 minutes late at La Junta, the train is doing every bit of it's permitted 79mph on May 3, 2019.
Two Amtrak routes serve the Centennial State. The California Zephyr's route through Moffat Tunnel and along the Colorado River goes from one end of the state to the other. The Southwest Chief cuts across the southeast corner.
