Iowa Pacific 456 (F40PHR, ex-Amtrak 378) and 457 (Road Slug, ex-Amtrak F40PH 367) sit on the Piedmont & Northern Railroad in Gastonia, NC on the evening of Sunday, June 22, 2019. Extensive damage to 457 has made it unlikely that these units will ever see service as a pair again after operation here as well on the San Luis & Rio Grande. Sporting original Rio Grande Railroad themed paint with an unusual nose after rebuilding has made these units stand out from typical shortline power.
