    Remarks & Notes
Amtrak San Diegan 573 passes between the Pacific Ocean (beyond the train) and the Agua Hedionda Lagoon (which Santa Fe's Fourth District - also known, for obvious reasons; as the "Surf Line" - bisects) as it makes its way from San Diego to Los Angeles on June 5, 1985. AMTK F40PH 221 is pulling a seven-car train comprised of a former US Army troop kitchen car converted by Amtrak to a bagagge car, an Amfleet coach, an Amfleet Amcafe and four more Amfleet coaches. The train has just passed Carlsbad, California's Encina Power Station, a natural gas and oil-fueled electricity generating plant. Just two or three miles ahead is the stop in Oceanside.
