As summer winds down, Amtrak Pacific Surfliner 580 skirts the Pacific Ocean at Califia State Beach in San Clemente, California, on August 25, 2018 (just a week before Labor Day weekend). One of Amtrak's 40th Anniversary engines, P42DC 156 painted in the carrier's Phase I paint scheme, leads train 580 today, as the train is roughly halfway into its 128-mile trip form Los Angeles to San Diego.
