Between April 1940 and April 1943, General Motors Electro-Motive Division built a grand total of eleven 300 hp Model 40 locomotives. The diminutive diesels were intended for light industrial use. For a model with such low production, a surprising number (eight, I believe) are still in existence. One of them resides at Professional Locomotive Services in East Chicago, Indiana, as seen in this September 28, 2018 view. PLS has restored it to superb condition, including a pristine paint job with metallic red paint. This engine, numbered 300, was originally built as USAX 7952. It was later sold to Acme Newport Steel (NPTX 1). Photographed on private property with permission and full personal protective equipment (PPE).
