      Remarks & Notes
0-4-2 saddle tank steamlocomotives # 3 SIR HAYDN and # 4 "EDWARD THOMAS" are pulling a mixed train on the 2 ft 3 in (686 mm) gauge Talyllyn Railway between Rhydyronen and Brynglas. In the rear of the train are 4 empty slate transport wagons. This was the main load of the railway, which openend in 1866. The railway opened with two locomotives, one carriage and several goods vehicles in use and was operated under a "one engine in steam" policy to ensure that two trains could not collide. Locomotive # 3 was built in 1878 by Hughes’ Loco & Tramway Eng. Works Ltd of Loughborough for the Corris Railway and came to the Talyllyn in 1951. # 4 was built in 1921 by Kerr, Stuart & Co. Ltd. for use on the Corris Railway, and was purchased by the Talyllyn in 1951 and named after the TR’s former manager.
