            “Proud as a Peacock, and struttin’ Her Stuff”

            Locomotive No. 493 of the Durango and Silverton Railroad makes her return to active service after fifty-two years this weekend, with the run of the Annual Durango and Silverton Winter Photographers Special.
            Converted to oil, the 493 is the third K-37 Mikado to be restored to active service following the abandonment of the D&RGW lines in 1968, following coal burning 497 and 491 respectively.
            Here we see it crossing the highest bridge on the Silverton Line at Tacoma, just north of Rockwood.
