A San Luis & Rio Grande photo freight thunders around a curve at Fir, Colorado, after a round trip from Alamosa to La Veta on September 20, 2007. Originally a Southern Pacific locomotive, the 2-6-0 spent most of its time in places like California’s Central Valley, not climbing mountain passes like those it is encountering here.
