          Remarks & Notes
Crossing the southernmost tip of the Rocky Mountains, Amtrak's Southwest Chief gives passengers a front row seat to the incredible scenery of New Mexico. While these mountains are scenic, they pose a significant challenge for railroaders. Having just crested the 7,500' summit of Glorieta Pass, Amtrak #3 will be faced with rugged terrain and steep downhill grades as it travels towards Lamy. Guarding this incredible piece of railroad are several pristine US&S searchlight signals.

The Southwest Chief is an under-appreciated train. The New Mexico scenery is like none other in the entire system.

Signals with character, many falling into history.
