The Muddy Creek Station. While the New Jersey & New York Railroad was building what would become the Pascack Valley Line, local entrepreneur Julius Braunsdorf donated the land for a station. There are conflicting reports on how the name was given, but stories seem to lead back to the idea that Pear River sounded like a nicer place to live than Muddy Creek. The NJ&NY RR would exist as a subsidiary of the Erie Railroad until Erie Lackawanna merger in 1960. Operation and maintenance of the Pascack Valley Line would later fall to Conrail with NJ DOT in 1976, and later still to NJ Transit and MTA Metro North. As part of its 40th Anniversary, New Jersey Transit “wrapped” ALP-45DP 4519 in an EL tribute scheme, as seen on its nominal home rails leading train 9623 on the evening of Wednesday, June 4, 2020.
