“Open Vestibule” SOU 992253, a box car modified with an “open vestibule”, leads as the Norfolk Southern shoulder ballast cleaning equipment is shoved east on the Lurgan District, about to cross Yellow Breeches Creek on the “Leidighs” through truss bridge. After completing work west of here, this was an “in-transit” (non-operational) reverse move back to Harrisburg.
The consist: (1) SOU 992253 (2) SOU 152197 flat carrying an isotainer of diesel fuel (3) side dump car (unidentified) (4) NS 992607 (5) NS 992606 (motive power/digger)
There are actually two side-by-side non-identical truss bridges at this location. Only the northern (unused) span has a build plate, identifying it as being “built by Bethlehem Steel Bridge Corporation, Steelton, PA, 1917” (for the Philadelphia and Reading Railroad).
