| A interesting work train heads out of Mason City on the UP Spineline. The train needs to go all the way to Nevada to wye the train and come back (180 miles!). Here the train crosses the CP Sheldon Sub at the control point called the Bear Trap. This is also where the old ex-M&St.L trackage broke off from the Spineline and headed towards Marshalltown. Alittle bit of the M&St.L trackage is still in south of Mason City. This work train is an all in one train for a work gang that includes tank cars of fuel, flat cars of railroad equipment and transportation vehicles, and gons full of lights and other needed equipment. |
