An eastbound BNSF freight on Montana Rail Link’s Second Subdivision, heads out of Big Timber, Montana, beneath the Crazy Mountains on the morning of June 25, 2017. The name Crazy Mountains is a shortened form of the name “Crazy Woman Mountains,” and legend has it that the epithet was given to the peaks after a woman who went insane and lived in them after her family was killed in the westward settlement movement.
