    Remarks & Notes
Slicing through the smoke filled air, which has blanketed most of the San Fernando Valley as multiple brush fires burn across Southern California, AMTK 156 leads this morning's northbound Coast Starlight upgrade into Santa Susana Pass. The train is passing through a well known cut in the jagged rocks here that professional and amateur photographers alike would often frame the passage of the Southern Pacific's morning Daylight passenger train in the 1940's and 1950's. Out of the picture to the left is Tunnel 27 that the train will soon sail through before entering Tunnel 26, which will deposit the Seattle-bound train in Simi Valley for its next station stop.

Running daily between Seattle and Los Angeles, this train offers running alongside the Pacific Ocean and through the Cascade Mountains. It has been one of Amtrak's long-distance success stories.
