| An extra local from Waterloo to Dubuque begins the job of picking up grain at the Independence elevator. The
The city of Independence has a decent railroad display on the northside of town. The Buchanan County Tourism Visitor Center has the Chicago and Rock Island Depot and the Illinois Central Depot restored together. The 0-8-0 steam engine is a former GTW that came from Northwestern Steel & Wire (So the research claims). in 1996 the IC Depot was turned 90 degrees and moved some. This depot dates back to 1892, and the IC arrived in Independence in 1859. |
