Just after sunset on another smoky day in the Western US, BNSF Railway train H-BARWAT1-12 (High Priority Merchandise, Barstow to Watson) is about to get overtaken by another westbound (the S-LPKSCO1-09), the headlights of which are already reflecting off the well cars in the spur. This train, with BNSF ES44DC 7773, ET44C4 3721 and BNSF 7729 for power (with BNSF ET44C4 3752 and 3745 on the rear) has been sitting at Basta, about a mile west of the Fullerton Amtrak station, for well over an hour at this point, having met or been overtaken by at least six BNSF, Amtrak and Metrolink trains.
