Retrolike. When the Nanuet Mall opened in 1969 with its anchor stores Bamberger's and Sears, it was the largest shopping attraction in Rockland County. Just one year prior, the Central of New Jersey Railroad took delivery of its first passenger "geeps" for service on today's Raritan Valley and North Jersey Coast Lines. NJ Transit 4109 (GP40PH-2, ex-NJTR 4106, née-CNJ 3677, 10/1968) leads train 1627 over Route 59 in Nanuet, New York at sunset on the evening of Thursday, October 15, 2020. This engine was repainted into a CNJ tribute paint scheme in 2019 as part of NJT's 40th Anniversary. In the background is present day "The Shops at Nanuet", reopened in 2013 as an outdoor mall. And while this section of the Pascack Valley Line completed in 1851 as part of the New York and Erie Rail Road's Main Line (later Piermont Branch) the current rail bridge was installed in 1995.
