Heading south on Metrolink’s Orange Sub, Union Pacific GP60 1162 (ex-UP 1991, née-Cotton Belt 9689) takes eight cars to Santa Ana. When Interstate 5 was widened in the late 1990s necessitating the removal of the former Southern Pacific branch from Anaheim to Santa Ana. Connections were made in Anaheim and Santa Ana, and UP’s locals jump onto the former Santa Fe Fourth District to complete their trips. (Orange, California – November 11, 2020)
