For a short period of time ML-401 was the train to get on the Susquehanna. It was frequently detoured over the NYS&W in the months following the Conrail split. This gave some relief to CSX crews which were spread thin at the time. It often ran in daylight, leaving Little Ferry in the morning, making for an east chase west. ML-401 is seen passing through Franklin, NJ amid some good fall color.
