Making a rare Saturday run the Batten Kill Railroad plowed the entire length of their line with a pair light engines to open up after the massive 3 feet of snow deposited on Washington County by Winter Storm Gail. Double heading (because they can't MU right now) are two vintage products from nearby Schnectady: G&J 4116 a veteran ex D&H Alco RS3 (blt. 9/52) and SNEX 5012 an ex Atlantic & Danville Alco RS36 (blt. 12/59)
They are rounding the curve at MP A131.8 just north of the Railroad Avenue crossing as they enter the quaint little village. The A denotes Albany, and despite being 37 miles in a straight line, via rail it's nearly 132 miles north to Castleton, west to Whitehall, then south to Mechanicville and on to the state capital and the D&H's historic headquarters city.
