Ex-NJT 5010: NJT's highest numbered Comet IV Cab Car, NJT 5031, formerly was NJT's second from lowest: NJT 5010. Comet IV Cab Cars NJT 5009 and 5010 were renumbered to become NJT 5030 and 5031, respectively, when Metro-North Comet III Cab Cars were renumbered to become NJT 5009 and 5010. While Metro-North had initially bought 2 Comet III Cab Cars for West-of-Hudson service, in reality, they were not used on Metro-North trains due to a lack of compatible equipment used on Metro North lines at the time. This shuffling of numbers was to allow the renumbered Comet III Cab Cars to be consecutive to NJT's pre-existing Comet III Cab Cars, numbered 5000-5008. By the start of 2013, all Comet IV Cab Cars would no longer be used in service leading trains.
