The narrow gauge line of Central Rafael Freyre reached numerous peasant communities, each with its own siding and overhead crane. Roads into these places were poor at best, with most people travelling on foot or horseback, or aboard the train. At this loading point, #1387 is shunting empty cars. As the train was quite heavy and to avoid slippage, sand had to be poured on the rails. #1387 has been built by Baldwin in 1905 for the Santa Lucia mill (previous name of Rafael Freyre) as #5. The locomotive is still wearing its initial number on the smokebox door.
