Remarks & Notes

Amtrak train 48, the eastbound Lake Shore Limited, originated in Chicago the previous day. Traveling along the shore of Lake Erie much of the way (thought Ohio, a sliver of Pennsylvania and western New York), this train split in Albany-Rensselaer NY. The New York section continued with AMTK 491 and 488, a pair of former New Haven FL9 dual mode locomotives (which could operate off electric third-rail in the tunnels of New York, as well as here) being added an early afternoon arrival in New York City, and the rest of the train continuing behind F40PHs that powered it from Chicago, now as train 448 to Boston MA.
