As southbound Metrolink train 684 (Los Angeles to Laguna Niguel/Mission Viejo) departs the station, BNSF Railway train Q-LPCLAC3-20 heads west behind ES44C4 3269, ES44DC 7290, Dash 9-44CW 4762 and ES44AC 5784. This section of BNSF’s San Bernardino Sub, much of it triple-tracked between Fullerton Junction and Los Angeles, sees a heavy amount of traffic, with about 100 BNSF, Amtrak and Metrolink trains per day (pre-pandemic, and about 80 per day in 2020).
