When inspecting Burlington Northern’s busy First Sub of the Chicago Division, you still have keep one’s wits about you, even on a weekend when there are fewer commuter trains. The track inspector has stopped his hi-rail truck on Main 2 at the crossovers at Highlands, Illinois, as a westbound BN “dinky” commuter train roars by on Main 1 on April 18, 1987. In the background is the station of Hinsdale. Also note that the telltales are still up protecting the old wooden overpass at Highlands that this photo is made from.
