A Freeport McMoRan train works up the steep grade between Clifton and Morenci, Arizona, approaching Corral Cut on October 28, 2020. Lead locomotives FMI No. 59 is former Rio Grande GP40 No. 3075 that was extensively rebuilt by Freeport McMoRan into a GP38-2. The third unit in the consist is FMI EMD GP38-2 No. 9, specially-painted in camouflage colors to honor our United States military veterans and nine young men from Morenci that joined the Marine Corps in 1966 and went to fight in Vietnam—they became known as “The Morenci 9.”
